Strong sales of digital products; digital SLR sales were up 160% and flat-styled TV sales were up 127% from a year ago.
During the summer sales promotion, market demand was strong for PC peripherals and main digital electrical appliances such as LCD TVs. We will explore the market movement by using the data from BCN Ranking, July 2007.
Flat-styled TV sales were up 127.9% from a year earlier, and the digital SLR and laptop PC markets were also strong.
For mass marketers, flat-styled TVs have lost its leader position from last year. The unitary sales of LCD TVs and plasma TVs in July were 127.9% up from the previous year. The sale of HDD-DVD recorders, which is often bought with TVs, was down 91.2% from a year ago. However, when we focus only on the sales of digital broadcasting tuner models, it was up 157.5% from last year.
In the PC related market, sales of laptop PCs were up 107.9%, HDD bare was up 108.1% and mouse was up 107.9% compared with last year. On the other hand, sales of desktop PCs were down 80.3% and portable audio players were also down 86.8% from a year earlier. Unexpectedly, DVD players increased sales by 127.1% compared with the previous year, eespecially the sales of portable DVD players, which was up 158.9%.
As for the digital camera market, compact models had similar sales as last year (98.9%). The sale of SLR models increased significantly (160.4%). When we look at the unit sales, Nikon, the top-selling maker this July, made 248.5% of sales and Canon made 159.8% of sales compared with last year. We can see here the drastic sales growth of Nikon. In connection, Nikon has the top sales shares of the unit based data of digital SLR market from last December to this July, and they had a 3% to 15% lead over other makers. However, new digital SLR products will be released one after another this season. We cannot miss the movement of the market.
